Alan Kazdin’s research focuses on the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of childhood dysfunction, especially oppositional, defiant, aggressive, and antisocial behavior. His lab works with children referred for treatment at the Yale Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic, an outpatient service for children and families. He is interested in developing effective child- and family-based interventions to improve current child functioning and to controvert the poor long-term prognosis of antisocial behavior. The research examines diverse facets of child and family functioning (e.g., stress, child-rearing practices, quality of family life), processes and outcomes of child therapy (e.g., therapeutic alliance, parent depression), and mediators, moderators, and mechanisms of therapeutic change.
