Jeannette Ickovics' research focuses on women and HIV/AIDS, as well as more general research on the interaction of biomedical and psychosocial factors that promote good health and recovery. She has been engaged in clinic- and community-based research, focusing on individuals traditionally under-represented in AIDS research. Her most recent work includes pregnant teens and young women who can often be characterized by their minority status and poverty. A large NIH-funded randomized controlled trial was recently completed, documenting the effectiveness of an innovative model of group prenatal care to reduce risk for HIV and other STDs as well as improve perinatal outcomes in New Haven, CT and Atlanta GA. A translational study is now underway at 14 community health centers in New York.
Jeannette Ickovics is Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and of Psychology at Yale University, and the Director of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Program at the School of Public Health. Dr. Ickovics is Director of the Office of Yale Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE), which is part of the new Yale Center for Clinical Investigation. She is also Deputy Director for the Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA), where she also serves as Director of Development /Education and Training.
